Castelli

79 Km

The village of Castelli is a real gem set in the mountains of the Gran Sasso. It is one of the access points to the Gran Sasso National Park. Going up through Rigopiano, in fact, it is possible to reach Campo Imperatore. The view of the more than 2,000 metres of Monte Camicia is also breathtaking. The artistic tradition that has made Castelli famous throughout the world is undoubtedly the production of ceramics, a craft that began in the 16th century and that still preserves the prestige of Castellian production today. The Museum of Ceramics, established in 1984 to promote the culture and art of majolica, has a rich repertoire, in the former Franciscan monastery of the Order of Observant Friars Minor dating back to the mid-16th century.
