Costa dei Trabocchi

Along the southern stretch of Abruzzo’s coastline, between Ortona and Vasto, rise like sentinels over the sea the famous and celebrated ‘trabocchi’, compared by Gabriele D’Annunzio to ‘colossal spiders’ and described in the tragedy ‘Il Trionfo della Morte’ as ‘machines that seemed to live a life of their own’. These bizarre constructions are fishing machines on stilts and many of them have been restored to their original beauty. In some now there are restaurants where you can enjoy fish dishes in keeping with traditions Abruzzo region. Wonderful are the beaches along this stretch with crystal-clear blue waters and breathtaking views.
